Description
Our “2 day” offer with overnight stay in a mountain hut is an all-mountain unique experience, suitable for bikers with good training and technical skills.
DAY 1
After a 1h30’ taxi transfer to the Stelvio Pass, we will start with a rocky downhill section that will take us to the Umbrail Pass, where the first climb of the day awaits us, with some pushing now and then.
At the top of the Bocchetta Forcola, you will see the WWI trenches and other military constructions, with some historical explanation. Here the longest descent of the day begins, nice and smooth at the beginning, a bit more technical with some loose rocks towards the end. After having lunch in one of the mountain huts along the Cancano Lakes, we will ride towards the Fraele Towers
Here we will descend a short trail followed by a long flat fire road (nearly 10 km), taking us to the entrance to Val Viola.
The valley rises gradually, at first on a false-flat path and then with more significant slopes. A unique panorama of Cima Piazzi and the other peaks of Val Viola will accompany us as far as Rifugio Federico Valgoi, set in the beautiful amphitheatre of Val Dosdè, with its glacier as a backdrop.
Here we will spend the night, but not before enjoying an excellent dinner!
DAY 2
A good breakfast and off we go! We take a dirt road that is initially flat before rising in the direction of the Val Viola Pass.
From the pass we enter Switzerland and from here a breathtaking single-track descent along Val di Camp takes us to Sfazù, only after admiring the beauty of the Saoseo lake in a beautiful larch forest. The last section to Angeli Custodi is a super-flowy ancient mule track where our speed will be significant!
A short stretch of asphalt will take us to Poschiavo station, where we will take the Bernina Red Train to the Bernina Pass.
The Red Train, so called because of the flaming colour of its carriages, is a jewel of the Rhaetian Railway, which became a UNESCO World Heritage in 2008.
Europe’s highest railway, also known as the Bernina Express, takes us on a breath-taking journey through unique landscapes with forests and spectacular glaciers.
Once at the Bernina Pass, the last ascent of this “2-day” tour will take us back to Livigno, passing initially through Fuorcla Minor on a beautiful flow trail and then to the Forcola Pass, before descending the valley to Livigno.
